Operation Smile

Hello, we are going to have a yard sale. All proceeds are going to Operation Smile. Operation Smile is a group of doctors who go to poor places all over the world to help people who have cleft lips. It costs $240 for one operation. Our goal is to earn enough money for two operations.

I learned about this charity when I was watching tv. I was flipping through the channels and I had to wait on one channel to come in. That was one of the channels that I thought would have been boring news, but I began to get engaged in the story.  It was stories about kids who got bullied and stopped school and stuff because of their cleft lips.  And I really wanted to help.

We began to forget about it until my uncle called on Skype who lived in Namibia and said that Operation Smile had come to Namibia. He had met the people in charge. After that we meant to have a garage sale, but time passed by and we didn't get to it. So this year, when we were looking at my school clothes that didn't fit, I suggested that we have a yard sale for Operation Smile for all our stuff we didn't use.  We would ask our neighbours to bring baked goods and to give paintings and for them to give their old stuff.

It is going to be on Saturday, September the 8th from 9-1.

There is a website of Operation Smile. On the site I found a kit, baby pictures, lots of information about the organization. Here is a link to my page on the Operation Smile web site:  http://support.operationsmile.org/goto/guelphyardsale

If you want to donate in Canadian dollars and be issued a Canadian tax receipt, go to the Canadian website. The url for the Operation Smile website for US donations is www.operationsmile.org and for Canada it is www.operationsmile.ca .

Oliver with His Amazing Light Saber

This is Oliver with his light saber. It is Qui-Gon Jinn's light saber.

He got his love of Star Wars by my older brother.

My favorite Star Wars character is Anakin from the Clone Wars.

Little Fur and Yoda

This is a picture of me and my brother.  I was "Little Fur" and my brother was Yoda. We paraded around the town with my mom's friend.  We were collecting candy but I didn't get to eat much because my parents thought I had rashes at night because of eating candy.

Little Fur is a character from a book.  She has long red hair and a cloak. She has to go out and save the "Old Ones" who are old trees. Her job is to heal sick animals. She is a elf-troll, her mother was a troll and her father was an elf.

Weird mushrooms

These mushrooms are weird mushrooms because they look weird.  Some are big and some are small. But that's not the only reason that they're weird.  Some look different but they are the same type of mushroom.  Some try to look the same as a different mushroom, but they're actually a different mushroom. Mushrooms sometimes disguise themselves as poisonous mushrooms.

This picture was taken at Whipple Dam state park on a mushroom hunt with the Central Pennsylvania Mushroom Association. The brush in there is for cleaning them off and they cut the ends off so that they're not dirty in the basket.

Good-a-bye, a-bya.

The Franklin Institute

I went to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. And I went through the heart maze and played the games and I even went into a real airplane.  Then we went to get some lunch and then we went back and did a pinball thing.  How the pinball thing worked was:  First you choose a wound. Then you pulled the trigger when the ball came up and the ball was the ball of destiny.   Then it fell into a hole and each hole had a different place and they would show how they would heal that wound in that time and in that place. For example, in ancient Egypt if you had the sniffles they put leeches on the sides of your nose.

I took this picture of Benjamin Franklin.  As we were leaving they were setting up for a wedding right around this statue!
